Tools and Settings
Words are checked against a built-in list of inappropriate words before being added.
Words are validated by the definition service and excluded if flagged as not appropriate.
Tip: If different sources are used, the image and/or examples may not match the word definition.
When on, the app may use a stored breakdown from the Spelling Adventure dictionary if the selected method has no result.
When on, the app may fall back to simplified breakdowns (built-in list and simple slicing) if no method breakdown is available.
Word structure comparison — current words
(Stars, bursts, moving pictures and short clips)
Sets how much help your child gets. Extra support: maximum scaffolding, unlimited retries, never penalised. Standard: balanced, one retry per word. Challenge: minimum scaffolding, no retries, stricter Master tier. Your child never sees the mode named.
How many sessions to spread each word list across. More sessions = spaced retrieval = better retention. Changes apply to the next cycle.
How many words to introduce on the first session. Remaining words are added on the next session. Has no effect when cycle length is 1 day. Changes apply to the next cycle.
How words are reviewed at the start of later sessions. Active: cue shown first, child thinks, then taps to reveal. Passive: word shown immediately.
Tip: start with fewer words for younger learners, then increase as they get more confident.
Tip:
Simple: 5–7 years (usually 1 meaning in 1 sentence)
Medium – 7–9 years (usually 1 meaning in 2-3 sentences)
Complex – 9–10 years (usually up to 2-3 meanings, if available)
Lists are selected automatically based on the school curriculum and your current primary code. Make another code primary to auto-load different lists each week. Or turn this off to pick lists yourself for each week.
